Description
Lloyd cars came onto the scene back in 1906, but they had their heyday in the 50s in the Borgward concern. Along with the BMW Isetta, the Messerschmitt KR and the Goggomobil, these baby cars were a typical feature of the post-war street scene. The Lloyd LP 300 spearheaded the successful run in 1950 with its wood and leatherette bodywork. Its engine made a noise suggestive of a hoarsely baying wolf. This car was followed in 1953 by the 12 hp Lloyd 400, in 1955 by the Lloyd 600 and by the Lloyd Alexander in 1957. With the Alexander, the 19 hp Lloyd series with rear- fastened doors started sporting steering column gearshift, crank-down and pivoted windows, and at long last a boot with access from outside. The 1956 TS version even offered a full 25 hp with the cubic capacity unchanged.
