Description
The British paratroops carried out their most famous mission, but also incurred highest losses, in September 1944, when the 1st British airborne division were parachuted down behind the German lines in Holland, in order to take the bridge at Arnhem. However the paratroops were unable to hold their isolated position there against the German counter-attacks.
