One way to paint the gauges is to put the color you want the numbers to be on first, then after it's dry, add just a touch of a thin wash of the color you want the face to be. The thin color will drain off of the numbers and allow them to show through. When dry, add a coat of clear gloss or acrylic floor wax. There are also numerous after market companies that offer various gauge detailing products.
