What is the best way to paint the gauges on the dashboard?

One way to paint the gauges is to put the color you want the numbers to be on first, then after it's dry, add just a touch of a thin wash of the color you want the face to be. The thin color will drain off of the numbers and allow them to show through. When dry, add a coat of clear gloss or acrylic floor wax. There are also numerous aftermarket companies that offer various gauge detailing products.
